Tiger Woods to Design Golf Course at Marcella Club in Park City, Utah
Tiger Woods is bringing his renowned golf design prowess to Park City, Utah, as he announced Tuesday that he and his company, TGR Design, will construct a golf course at Marcella Club.[0] The course will be his first mountain design and the fourth to bear his name, joining Bluejack National in Houston, El Cardonal at Diamante in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Payne's Valley in Hollister, Missouri.[1]
The Marcella Club is a partnership between two communities, Marcella Mountain and Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge, and will feature two 18-hole courses.[2] The first course, designed by Woods, is slated to be more than 8,000 yards from the tips and will be a championship course offering generous landing areas to allow players to keep the ball in play while still challenging players with strategic choices and angles off the tee.[3] The greens will vary in size and contouring to reinforce the tee shot strategy, and with green surrounds mowed tight, players missing the green will be able to use their creativity to make interesting recoveries.[4]
The course has been designed to capitalize on the stunning, far-reaching views, as well as to include sheltered valleys between the ridges for a truly exceptional and unforgettable golfing experience.[5] The Marcella Club will offer just 500 full golf memberships for the 36-hole facility, making it one of the most exclusive golf clubs in Utah.[6] In addition, the golf developments will feature a clubhouse and practice facility.[7] It is expected that Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge will be ready for use by 2025.[6]
“Utah is an incredible place, with favorable year-round weather that offers opportunities to be active outdoors throughout all four seasons — golfing, skiing, biking, hiking, and fishing — the list goes on and on,” Woods said.[8] “I’m thrilled to be designing a course in such a special location; this new course is uniquely beautiful and will offer engaging play for every ability.”[9]
The course is expected to be completed in 2025, and already has the admiration of Utah’s residents. “Tiger Woods, as you know, is one of the biggest names in golf, and we felt really lucky he chose Utah,” said Cody Winterton, president of the Raintree Investment Corporation.[10]
