Tiger Woods on Meeting LIV Golf Players at Masters
Tiger Woods has admitted he is unsure how he will react to meeting LIV Golf players at this year’s Masters at Augusta National.[0] Woods spoke at a press conference on Tuesday at Riviera Country Club, where he will make his first PGA Tour start since last year’s Open Championship.[1]
“I don't know because I haven't been around them,” Woods said.[2] “Some of the players out here have – for instance, Rory was in Dubai with some of those players. I don't know, I don't know what that reaction's going to be. I know that some of our friendships have certainly taken a different path, but we'll see when all that transpires. That is still a couple months away.”[3]
He went on to say that, due to his competitive nature, he could never settle for just being an ambassador for the game, rather than playing it.[4] He asserted, “My goal is to win whenever I'm playing.”[4] As a competitor, I find it difficult to comprehend that the players have played and acted as ambassadors in order to develop the game.[5]
Woods is making his PGA Tour comeback at the Genesis Invitational this week, and Scottie Scheffler reclaimed the world number one ranking after successfully defending his Waste Management Phoenix Open title with a two-stroke victory on Sunday.[6]
The Champions Dinner is going to be obviously something that’s talked about,” Woods said.[7] “We as a whole need to honour Scottie, Scottie’s the winner, it’s his dinner. We must ensure that Scottie is honoured properly, and also acknowledge the circumstances, those who have gone, and what we are facing legally and emotionally. There is much to consider.
