Scottie Scheffler Makes History with $4.5 Million Win at The Players Championship
Scottie Scheffler made history on Sunday as he moved back to the top of the golf's world rankings with a dominating $4.5 million win at The Players Championship.[0] His victory at TPC Sawgrass was his sixth PGA Tour title in the last 13 months, joining Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only men to hold the Masters and Players titles at the same time.[1] Scheffler shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish at 17-under and earn the top prize of $4.5 million.[2]
Tyrrell Hatton finished in second place at 12-under following an impressive Sunday performance that included a 29 on the back nine, tying a course record.[3] Other notable finishers included Hideki Matsuyama in 5th place (-9), Adam Scott in 71st place (-5), and Aaron Baddeley in 72nd place (-7).
In addition to the main prize, Scheffler earned a number of other awards for his performance. He was presented with a Gold Man Trophy, a 29 on the back nine, and a $882,900 check for finishing at 38th place.
