Phil Mickelson Sparks Debate on Social Media, Talks About PGA Tour’s Dress Code & Ranking System

Phil Mickelson recently left the PGA Tour and joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League in 2022.[0] Since then, he has been the topic of discussion for something other than golf, and this time his tweets are the point of attraction for netizens and golf enthusiasts.[1] This comes as Rory McIlroy opened up a three-shot lead after a great -7 3rd round in DUBAI, and people are eager to see if he can finish it off.[0] The final round action can be watched live from the Middle East on the golf channel.[2]

In a wide-ranging interview with Sports Illustrated, Mickelson said there will probably be another ranking system that is more credible as it includes all golfers in the world, as the current system has lost any credibility.[3] He believes the new system will help tournaments go away from using it as a criteria for qualifying.

The former PGA pro also said that he is at peace with not playing another PGA Tour event ever again, but believes he will have the opportunity if he wants to by next year due to the pending litigation. He also added that the tournaments where you are going to leave a mark are the majors, creating a life memory.[4]

Phil recently expressed admiration on Twitter for a tweet expressing love for LIV Golf's new broadcasting deal with the CW Network.[5] He also claimed he has made his peace with the prospect of never playing another PGA Tour event, but expects to be given the opportunity.

Mickelson is in every major for the next three years and believes he has a chance to win one or two more, creating accomplishments that haven't been done at this stage. He is also confident that he can duplicate his success at Kiawah.

The golf legend also had a classy reply to a Twitter troll and made his presence known on the social media platform for the past two days. He tweeted about the PGA Tour's dress code, questioning why the American circuit was being hypocritical by allowing the then tournament leader, Sam Ryder, to play in joggers and socks.[6]
