Caddie Collapses During AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Receives Life-Saving CPR

On Friday afternoon during the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a caddie collapsed in the middle of the 11th fairway and required life-saving CPR before being rushed to a local hospital.[0] The PGA Tour released a statement on the incident, saying: “At the direction of the PGA Tour Rules Committee, the players in that group—Max McGreevy and Beau Hossler—paused play during the medical emergency and will be allowed to warm up and resume their round shortly. We will provide additional details when available.”[1]

Max McGreevy, one of the professional players in the group, told ESPN that the caddie “collapsed in the middle of the fairway and they attempted to get his bag off him quickly so they could try CPR.”[2] Lukas Nelson, another amateur in the group, told the same reporter that the caddie was doing better.[3]

The group, which included two amateurs and two professionals, was just over halfway through their round when the medical emergency occurred. Gareth Bale, who recently retired from soccer, is participating in his first PGA Tour event only a month after his retirement.[4] Players and caddies were seen hugging each other after the incident.[5]

The first three rounds of the Pro-Am are contested at three different courses in the area – Pebble Beach, Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill – before the players who make the 54-hole cut return to Pebble Beach for the final round.[3]

Field Level Media reported on the incident, and shared a tweet from Paolo Uggetti, who wrote: “He’s still receiving CPR as they stretcher him to an ambulance here at the 11th. Play has been stopped.”[2]

We wish the caddie a speedy recovery.
