Brown Takes Advantage of Opportunity at Torrey Pines After Withdrawal from Bahamas Tournament
After shooting 1-under 143 for two rounds in the Bahamas, Brown withdrew from the tournament and made the decision to fly to the West Coast and compete in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Brown was the first alternate, and got into the tournament when John Huh withdrew on Monday at 5 p.m. [0]
Brown utilized the competitive rounds he had previously played in order to prepare himself for Torrey Pines.[0] He also had the help of his friend Scott Stallings, who provided a scouting report of the two courses.[1] Brown also noted that he was adjusting to the time change and wasn't expecting to get much sleep.[2]
The decision to fly to the West Coast was probably a no-brainer for Brown. The purse at the Bahamas this week is $1 million with the winner banking $180,000 compared to the $8.7 million up for grabs at Torrey Pines and a winner’s share of $1.556 million.[0] Brown had booked flights ahead of time for both Monday and Tuesday in case he got into the tournament.[3]
Brown was looking at the positive side of the situation and trying to take advantage of the opportunity. He was also trying to stay competitive wherever he was playing. Brown noted that he would have stayed in the Bahamas if he had been in the top 10, but he decided to come to Torrey Pines once he didn't play that great on Monday.
